Great Ways to Show your Love for your Pet

You love your pooch, there’s no doubt about it. You may even buy those warm and cuddly outfits to keep him or her warm on chilly days.  Even so, you may wonder if there’s more you could be doing to show your immense appreciation for the constant companionship your canine offers to you and your family.  Here are some clues as to what your pooch may really need from you.

Different breeds of dogs have different specific behaviors, personality quirks, and needs.  By learning about the breed of dog you share your home with, you gain more insight into who they really are as individual animals and are thus better equipped to speak right to their heart.  Sure, there are some universal methods to treating your dog well, which we’ll cover here; but knowing more about your unique animal sets you up for extra special bonding.

Every dog loves to have a good time, which means that most might absolutely love it if you were to throw them a birthday party!  Don’t scoff; people really do this.  Holding a birthday party for your dog can be something that you do with just you and your pet, with the whole family, or with a huge backyard party where your dog and his or her friends can frolic and eat yummy treats.  Of course, you want to have treats for the humans in attendance as well.   Summer parties with BBQ and snow cone machines are an all-time favorite.

Planning a party for your dog with snow cone machines, cotton candy makers, or popcorn machines is perfect because you can hire someone to man such carts so guests can mingle freely – and keep an eye on their own playful pooch.  The alternative to this is that you are slaving away behind the grill or stove, or noshing on cold sandwiches.  When you celebrate your pooch, you also celebrate how well you are raising him or her; so you should not spend party time working.  Rent a couple of teens and some snow cone machines or other fan favorite and have a blast.

Does this all sound a little over the top for your taste?  Ok, how about these ideas for showing great love to your pet.  Chances are, you’re already doing at least one or two of the things on this list.

  • Take your pet outdoors for a walk every day.  Every. Day.  Animals are not created to be sedentary and crave that time to get out and be on the move.
  • Visit a local park where he or she can run free.  Even better than a walk on a leash is the ability to run free; to chase the wind, a favorite toy, or a bird.
  • Grooming is not only enjoyable for your pet; it is necessary. Daily brushing will remove any loose hair and skin and provide the opportunity to check for ticks or other problems. While your pooch may like you brushing their hair far more, brushing your dog’s teeth is crucial to their oral health. Use specially formulated dog toothpaste; never human toothpaste.

Following these ideas will send you on your way to great bonding and great times with your canine friend.  Snow cones, anyone?
